Flowers of May: The Call to Renewal

The month of May is dedicated to the Holy Mother of God.

While several cultures are celebrating the spring festivals, the Catholic world celebrates this month with a different blossom – the flowers of the Catholic magisterium and doctrines, beginning with the most basic knowledge up to the lives of saints, the wonders of Catholic liturgies, and the beauty of the protection given to us by God through the intercession of the very person who has truly held the values of God in her heart – the Blessed Virgin Mary.

But why May? Why does the Catholic Church recognize this month as a period of complete renewal and recognizance to the sacraments of the Church, the core virtues, and even the remembrance of responsibilities as a Catholic Christian?

Just like the season of Spring, the Catholic Church is always at a point of rejuvenation. This is how the Church survived two thousand years of faith. It is in the constant adoption of the ancient mysticism that the rituals of the Church perpetuates. Also, the month is dedicated to the Mother of God simply because she is the point of origin of the Catholic faith.

As much as Jesus is the source and summit of Faith, His blessed mother is the spark that ignited a renewal in human history through her fiat to God’s messianic plan. So, like the season of Spring that gives life an origin, the Blessed Mother also spearheads the renewal and rejuvenation of every Catholic Christian to the faith.

The Catholic Church, as a constant evolution through three millennia, retains the original virtues, teachings, and doctrines that the Lord has given the apostles who also spearheaded the distribution of Faith to the world. The month of May is also a period of recognizance to the call of Christian virtues; the embodiment of Catholic morals and imbuing the lives of the Triumphant Church to our lives, especially with our journey towards salvation through Jesus Christ.

Thus, the flowers of May call on every child, teenager, young adult, and even those who have surpassed maturity to back and reacknowledge the Catholic virtues entrusted to us through the sacraments, the daily teachings of the Church, and, most importantly, the Holy Mass.

So, as we celebrate the flowers of May, let us rekindle the Catholic and apostolic doctrines, the Christian values, and the re-evaluation of life on how it has heeded the will of God to our everyday life.
